flibbertigibbet11 asked:

Would doing bodyweight exercises be more beneficial for a martial artist than weights?

I currently do:
-150 pushups (total)
-10 sets of 10 dips between chairs
-5 sets of 5 pull-ups
-3 sets of 10 handstand pushups

and plyometric exercises in the form of:
-2 sets of 10 lunge cycle jumps
-2 sets of 10 depth jumps
-2 sets of 10 tuck jumps
-2 circuits of: 30 seconds of burpees, 30 seconds of mountain climbers, 30 seconds of jumping jacks, 30 seconds of split shuffles.

I do all this after 30 minutes of skipping rope every second day. I only started exercising like this last month. Before that I used to lie on the couch everyday, but I’m wondering if this is good for a martial artist?

I don’t know if I should be doing weights or not. There was another question on this subject where someone answered with something about fast-twitch and slow-twitch muscle fibers, so now I’m not too sure about doing plyometric exercises.

Is this workout any good for a martial artist?
If there is something this workout is lacking, could anyone please point out something I could change (but I don’t have any sort of weight equipment, which is why I’m doing bodyweight exercises instead).

Or if weights are more beneficial than bodyweight exercises, I could look into buying some equipment.

I’m not too sure what a martial artist requires in terms of conditioning.
And if I already have a decent school?
Ah and I forgot to say I do 50 bodyweight squats as well in my workout.

http://budurl.com/ttraining.com

I’m not the most physically fit person, I can’t do pullups or dips but I have an assistance machine at the YMCA. I can’t do many pushups or situps. So my two goals are:
1. Being able to do multiple pullups, dips without assistance and 2. Increasing the number of reps of the bodyweight exercises I can do.

http://budurl.com/ttraining.com

It seems to be giving me a lot of results and I think I’ll be doing this for a while.

Of course, I’m starting off with basics like push ups, pull ups, dips, shrugs, deadlifts, squats, lunges, etc. But I will be working to handstand push ups, hindu push ups, one legged squats, wrestler’s bridge, and others.

Anyone doing the same thing have tips or warnings on this?

Thanks for your time.

http://budurl.com/ttraining.com
